Do I have to abandon the desktop for Version 11?

Despite all the hoopla about mobile, there are plenty of developers who are still building, maintaining, and supporting desktop applications that they built in Alpha Five. The applications are profitable, and in many cases, there are no specific requirements to take them to the web.

These developers often ask us, "Will Alpha Five Version 11 make our desktop apps obsolete?"

The answer is no. That's the beauty of Version 11 -- you'll be able to run your applications flawlessly on all of today's major platforms, including your user's primary desktop.

But don't think we didn't improve the desktop! Actually, we support more of our web functionality on the desktop in Version 11 than ever before.

For example, our reporting capabilities have been significantly reworked and  improved. You'll notice a new Quick Report Genie and layout table report for easy generation of reports in both HTML and Excel. You'll also have the ability to create Linked Reports, which are even more useful than your previously used sub-reports.

Programming has also received a robust upgrade. Xbasic's support for .Net framework, along with our class syntax (that now supports data hiding), makes programming on the desktop more powerful than ever.

Xdialog now includes the ability to incorporate HTML, tabbed UIs, and page layouts into Xdialog windows.

When you need a chart to give your application a professional polish, you'll fire up Version 11's chart control where we've added Chart API, the ability to create charts in .Net, and Excel API to directly create files from Xbasic.

Of course, this doesn't mention our master feature list for Version 11 that will run on the desktop. This includes our Google map component for linking to Google map web services, the new intuitive interface of our calendar component, video player component to easily embed HTML5 and YouTube videos into any application, and the seamless display of our image gallery component.

I hope that answers the question, and inspires you to reboot your PC for Version 11!
